Like many others I still bemoan the fact that trying to put a simple border and/or padding around an image in WordPress is a real pain. You would have thought that something so basic and so necessary would be standard by now.
But it isn’t and so I went looking for an image border and padding plugin to make life a little easier. What I came up with was the “Advanced Image Styles” plugin by Gregory Cornelius. With the addition of the plugin what you get is the ability to very simply alter the padding and/or set a border. Simply click on your inserted image, click on the edit icon (the pencil) and then select “Advanced Options” and you are good to go.
Now to be fair this plugin is only listed on wordpress.org as follows:
Requires: 3.9 or higher
Compatible up to: 4.1.5
Last Updated: 2014-12-17
Active Installs: 20,000+
It hasn’t been updated in a while as you can see and there is at least one claim on the plugin’s listing that says it doesn’t work with 4.2.2. But I have to dispute that claim and wonder if it’s something else causing their issue.
It certainly works on all ten of my WordPress sites which are running WP 4.2.2 with a variety of themes and plugins, so I think it’s worth trying if you are looking for something to make life a little easier. It takes no time at all to download, install, activate, and use.
Unfortunately there is no indication that the author will update the plugin to current or future versions of WordPress but hopefully he will. This is a simple plugin but speaking for myself at least, I would hate to be without it. For all its cleverness and complexity there are still some things that WP does not do well. This plugin fixes one of them.
